Groupe de Physique des Matériaux
Laboratory Director: Xavier SAUVAGE
Laboratory presentation:
The laboratory "Groupe de Physique des Matériaux - GPM)" is a joint research unit (UMR 6634) between CNRS (link is external), l'Université de Rouen Normandie and l'INSA de Rouen Normandie (link is external). At the CNRS, it belongs to the physic's institute (INP).
The laboratory (4 500 m²) is located in the building of the UFR des Sciences et Techniques de l'Université de Rouen Normandie (4 000 m²) and at the INSA de Rouen (500 m²), in the "campus Science and engineering", located at Saint Etienne du Rouvray, near Rouen.
The laboratory gathers around 140 people (55 researchers and professors, 20 engineers, technicians and Administrative,40 postgraduates and 15 postdocs, visiting researchers and bachelor degree /master degree trainees.) The laboratory is internationally recongnized for its works on three themes:
- Scientific instrumentation: the atom under intense radiation and field
- Science and Mechanics of metals and alloys: the atomic structure
- Nanostructures of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology: from the atom to the function
- Disordered systems and polymers
- Opening fields and innovations
GPM and GENESIS :
The GENESIS project was initiated by the GPM laboratory as part of the Programme d'Investissement d'Avenir Equipex, funded by the ANR.
This project is coordinated and administrated by the Université de Rouen Normandie, one of the guardianship of the GPM laboratory.
The GENESIS project of Rouen has benefited of a real support from the Région Haute Normandie, the Métropole Rouen Normandie (formerly CREA), the Université de Rouen Normandie and LABEX EMC3, controlled by the CNRS, and of course the ANR (Projet d'Investissement d'Avenir-EQUIPEX).
GENESIS project at GPM:
- A real-estate project
Construction works started at the end of September 2014. The construction of the extension of the laboratory (GENESIS building) was completed on July 2015. November 2, 2015 was marked by a press release, with the visit of the GENESIS platform building from Pierre-Henry MACCIONI prefect of the région Haute Normandie, Nicolas MAYER-ROSSIGNOL, Président of the région Haute Normandie, Cafer ÖZKUL, Président of the Université de Rouen Normandie and Pr. Philippe PAREIGE. This day was covered by a press visit.
The inauguration of the building took place on July 2016.
- An instrumental platform
GENESIS is elaborate as a real instrumental platform for nanoanalysis effects of radiation in materials, opened to national and international collaborations.
The main instruments that compose the GENESIS plateform at the GPM are: the Scanning electron microscope (SEM), the Transmission Electron Microscope, Atom Probe Tomography
Some instruments of GENESIS platform are attached to the fédération de recherche CNRS IRMA (FR 3095).
Atom probes are integrated in the network METSA: réseau national de plateforme METSA (Microscopie Electronique et Sonde Atomique).
